While today is INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (IWD2023) around the world, we celebrate the achievements of ALL WOMEN and reflect on the achievements of these talented, fabulous, hard-working souls who hold their families and societies together! But for TODAY, we especially want to HONOR and celebrate the FANTASTIC accomplishments of BLACK WOMEN.
And some of the prominent Black Women who we honor today for their activism, bravery, their talent, and their fight against repression, include American Abolitionist Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman, Civil Rights Activist Rosa Parks, journalist Ida B. Wells, early 17th-Century explorer, Isabel de Olvera, and early 20th-Century artist, Augusta Savage. None of these women were EVER going to be put down by a WHITE MAN or a TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENT! EVER!!
And then came the AWESOME BLACK WOMEN musicians and singers like Mamie Smith, Bessie Smith, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Etta James, and Ella Fitzgerald, to name only a few. And in the present day, we celebrate powerful, iconic female stars like Chaka Khan, Beyonce, Rihanna, and thousands of others around the globe, including those on the political spectrum such as Michelle Obama and the current US Vice-President Kamala Harris.
The world owes Black Women a debt that’s a thousand years old, and today we’re shouting out our love with AWESOME MUSIC from our "BLACK DIVAS" playlist, described here:
