Girlfriends

Singer tells his long story of his short relationships- each constituting one entertaining, but skinny chapter in his 'slender' book: 'The Girlfriends That I Knew'. Funny, light and upbeat- of the Barenaked Ladies ilk; a hint of reggae in the verses, melodic, poppy and catchy.

Lyrics

We were just friends
without a spark of lust
we like the same bands
I pulled a cd from her shelf
She played me something new
and then I asked her out
but we lacked the glue from the start

So begun another chapter
Another slim chapter
in a very slender book called
“The Girlfriends That I Knew”

She didn’t like what I cooked her
She didn’t like my mother more
She swam in circles around me
And I could barely get off shore
But she loved my long hair…
that is until I shaved it off
I’ll never forgot seeing her shock

So ends another chapter
A very simple chapter
In a very slender book
called “The Girlfriends That I Knew”

in chapter one it was Leanne
but that was just a moment’s span
and chapter two i can’t recall
selective memory’s a blessing
chapter three was Kathy K
a love affair from which I ran away
and chapter four would be Janine
and that would lead to marriage…

So begins another chapter
another brand new chapter
in an as yet unpublished book
called “The Family That I Have”
